The mandate of the Oman Ophthalmic Society is to cultivate and promote the study and practice of ophthalmic sciences, research and man-power development with a view to render service to the community. Therefore, the inception of Oman Journal of Ophthalmology (OJO) comes as no surprise.
When I was invited to take over the post of co-editor of OJO along with Dr. Sana Al-Zuhaibi, an esteemed colleague and long-time associate, we stated one of the missions of the Journal as providing a platform for scientific expression of the Oman Ophthalmic Society. From the enthusiastic response and support we received from our colleagues abroad, we very soon realized that we will have to expand our remit to include the International Ophthalmic Community at large.
In this inaugural issue of Oman Journal of Ophthalmology, I welcome our newly elected officers of the Editorial Board, who have worked tirelessly with me in preparing this first issue of the Journal. We have teamed up with Medknow Publications to combine our resources with the latest in fast-track journal publication. Jointly, we hope to expand OJO's content, and increase the timeliness of its information to provide you with updated, concise information on several important topics in ophthalmology.
I want to thank all authors for their excellent contributions. As co-editor, I hope the issues to come will challenge all of you to continue to expand the scope of your practice. Your comments mailed to [email protected] to help achieve this are welcome.
I look forward to hearing from you and wish you all an enjoyable reading experience!
